How to connect Attentive to mailfloss
Connect Attentive to mailfloss to verify the email address of each new Attentive email subscriber the moment they sign up. Attentive has no API that lists existing subscribers, so mailfloss verifies new email subscribers only, through Instafloss.
Before you start
- You need an Attentive account that can install apps.
- Attentive isn't available on the Lite plan.
- Instafloss is available on the Business plan, or as an add-on.
Step 1: Connect Attentive in mailfloss
Attentive connects with a sign-in, not an API key. You don't need to copy a credential from Attentive.
- In mailfloss, go to Integrations and click Add integration.
- In Search for Email Service Provider, type attentive, then choose Attentive.
- Attentive opens. Sign in if asked, then approve the mailfloss app.
- Attentive sends you back to mailfloss, and the connection appears.
Step 2: Choose what mailfloss does with bad addresses
On the connection, open the Cleanup tab and choose one option: Ask me first, Report only, Update a field or Unsubscribe. Attentive has no Delete option. For what each option does, see Attentive email verification options.
Step 3: Turn on Typo Fixer (optional)
Typo Fixer corrects misspelled addresses, such as gmial.com. In Attentive, mailfloss subscribes the corrected address through one of your API sign-up units, then unsubscribes the misspelled one. Typo Fixer needs that sign-up unit's ID first.
- In Attentive, open Sign-up Units and copy the ID of an API sign-up method.
- In mailfloss, open the Typo Fixer tab on the connection.
- Paste the ID in Attentive sign-up unit ID and click Save.
- Turn on Typo Fixer.
Typo Fixer is available on the Business plan, or as an add-on.
Step 4: Turn on Instafloss
- On the connection, open the Schedule tab.
- Turn on Instafloss.
mailfloss creates a webhook in Attentive for new email subscriptions. Each new email subscriber is then verified, and your Cleanup choice applies to bad addresses. Autofloss, Decay Protection and Verify now aren't available for Attentive.
Troubleshooting
- "Attentive did not let mailfloss create the webhook that Instafloss needs." Attentive refused the webhook, and the Instafloss switch turns back off. Reconnect Attentive and try again. If it still fails, contact support.
- Typo Fixer asks for a sign-up unit ID. Typo Fixer stays off until you save an API sign-up unit ID. See Step 3.
- Reconnect banner. Attentive stopped accepting mailfloss, for example because the app was uninstalled. Reconnect Attentive from the connection.
