When mailfloss finds an invalid email in Ortto, the **Cleanup** tab decides what happens. The setting applies to every audience in the connection, and you can change it any time.

- **Ask me first.** The safest option. mailfloss lists invalid emails in **Waiting for you**, and nothing changes in Ortto until you decide.
- **Report only.** mailfloss emails you the results. Nothing changes in Ortto.
- **Update a field.** mailfloss writes the verification result to `mf_` custom fields on the person in Ortto, so your audiences can exclude invalid emails. This is reversible. Available on the Pro plan or as an add-on.
- **Unsubscribe.** The recommended option. mailfloss turns off email permission for the person, so they stop receiving campaigns. You can turn it back on in Ortto at any time.
- **Delete from Ortto.** Removes the person for good. Ortto deletes only archived people, so mailfloss archives the person, then deletes them. A deleted person can't be restored. Before Delete turns on, mailfloss shows what your last run would have deleted and asks you to confirm.

Ortto allows more than one person with the same email address. mailfloss applies your option to every person with the invalid address.

Typo Fixer works alongside every option: when an address has a common typo, such as gmial.com, mailfloss can correct it on the person instead of treating it as invalid. If the corrected address already belongs to another person, mailfloss applies your option to the misspelled person instead.

## Fields mailfloss writes

**Update a field** creates 8 text custom fields in Ortto and writes to them: `mf_validation_passed`, `mf_reason`, `mf_status`, `mf_flossed_on`, `mf_suggestion`, `mf_fixed`, `mf_score` and `mf_mode`. Your Ortto account needs 8 free custom field slots.
