When mailfloss finds an invalid email in Attentive, the **Cleanup** tab decides what happens. The setting applies to the whole connection, and you can change it any time.

- **Ask me first.** The safest option. mailfloss lists invalid emails in **Waiting for you**, and nothing changes in Attentive until you decide.
- **Report only.** mailfloss emails you the results. Nothing changes in Attentive.
- **Update a field.** mailfloss sets custom attributes on the subscriber in Attentive, so your segments can exclude invalid emails. This is reversible. Available on the Pro plan or as an add-on.
- **Unsubscribe.** The recommended option. mailfloss unsubscribes the address from Attentive marketing email, without sending an unsubscribe notification. Only the email channel changes; SMS subscriptions stay as they are. To resubscribe, the subscriber has to opt in again.

Attentive has no **Delete** option. Attentive's only delete is a privacy deletion, not list cleanup.

Typo Fixer works alongside every option: when an address has a common typo, such as gmial.com, mailfloss subscribes the corrected address through your API sign-up unit and unsubscribes the misspelled one, instead of treating it as invalid. Typo Fixer needs an Attentive sign-up unit ID on the **Typo Fixer** tab.

## Fields mailfloss writes

**Update a field** writes these custom attributes: `mf_validation_passed`, `mf_reason`, `mf_status`, `mf_flossed_on`, `mf_suggestion`, `mf_fixed`, `mf_score` and `mf_mode`. mailfloss writes `mf_suggestion`, `mf_fixed` and `mf_score` only when they have a value.
